Starting points for easy family walks are the Merano 2000 ski area and car-free Vigiljoch mountain near Lana. More demanding summit ascents can be found in the valleys of Val d’Ultimo/Ultental, Val Passiria/Passeiertal and Val Senales/Schnalstal.

WINTER HIKES
Year-round walking and hiking is possible in the Val d’Adige/Etschtal Valley, thanks to the local microclimate and almost constant sunshine.
In winter, sunny hiking paths such as the Falknerpromenade trail, the Tappeinerweg walk, and the Herrschaftsweg trail remain without snow, in contrast to the bustling ski slopes. There are also a number of snow hiking and snowshoeing routes above Tirolo.

ICE SKATING
The ice skating rink in Dorf Tirol/Tirolo offers a lot of fun for the whole family.
The "Meranarena" Ice Rink near the Merano/Meran town center features both indoor and outdoor ice skating.

SLEDDING
The five ski areas in and around Merano/Meran offer countless possibilities for family-friendly rides along natural downhill tracks. The 3.5 km long sled run on the Schnalstal Glacier is the longest of its kind in the area, stretching from Lazaun to Maso Corto/Kurzras. The Merano 2000 family ski area also features the Alpin Bob toboggan ride, a bobsled run on rails for additional fun. Other breath-taking descents suitable for both adults and children include the natural Moscha sled run in the Schwemmalm ski area and the Vigiljoch sled run. In the tranquil and self-contained ski area of Pfleders in Val Passiria/Passeiertal Valley, there is the option of sledding along a natural slope with numerous bends as well as a less demanding track more suitable for families with children.
Those without their own equipment can rent a sled at any of the ski areas or from one of the nearby mountain inns and restaurants.
